[THE SCENE~THE SEA SHORE]:
A MAN IS WALKING ALONG THE SHORE AND SEES A LITTLE GIRL THROWING STARFISH BACK INTO THE SEA....HE SAYS TO THE LITTLE GIRL: SILLY LITTLE GIRL, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF STARFISH THAT ARE GOING TO DIE. WHY DO YOU BOTHER DOING THAT?
THE LITTLE GIRL BY THE NAME OF EVELYN EVERGREEN LOOKS AT THE MAN AND SAYS: YEAH, BUT I CAN SAVE THIS ONE AS SHE THROWS IT BACK INTO THE SEA~~~~AND I CAN SAVE THAT ONE AS ANOTHER STARFISH IS THROWN BACK INTO THE LIFE-GIVING SEA!!!

[[I was deeply touched by this story about how anyone can make a difference, regardless of size or age or all the other barriers of "adult" thinking.....It reminded me about the big ol' fly that I ushered to the "freedom' of the open air rather than be assuredly massacred by the insensitivity of those who KILL FIRST AND ASK QUESTIONS LATER!!!!]]
MY~STARFISH [[Revised on August 25th, 2001]]
I spied a starfish on the shore~
I knew it would not last much more~
And so I flung it back, you see,
To Mother's arms of wavy sea!
I saw another 'fishy~star'
And likewise threw it very far~
Its Mother waited patiently
For another: number three!

IN CARE MUST E'ER WE WALK
A 'Noble' took his daily stroll
Amidst a 'classic' tour;
He did not go but nine full steps,
When a creature was no more!
He sauntered o'er his princely grass
And in a tiny cleft ~
He smashed the domain of the ants
Who toiled: NOW LEFT BEREFT!
He bolted forth in ignorance
Through spider's 'tree-leafed door';
He blundered through the crafted web
Where 'small folk' would've burst no more....
And now with all the ravage wreaked
On stroll of stately land ~
His mistress greets: "How was your walk?"
His lone remark: "Just grand!"

In a non-related story to our "STAR~FISH" girl, a little boy of nine, by the name of Nicholas Mirriam was in a cancer hospital, Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C., when a firend came in and gave him a present: a gift bucket containing soap & shampoo. He was so happy about this, that he later told his mom, Angel, that they had to do a "MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY." His mom asked, "What's that?"
Nicholas said, "You know, it's that day when you do nice things for other people,"
So Nick, with the help of his third grade class, and companies like Coca-Cola, TGIFriday's and the Washington Capitals hockey team, gathered $7500 in supplies, and they made 166 gift bags containing toiletries, gift certificates, hockey tickets and pizza coupons. Then "jolly-young" Nick would don a doctor's uniform and dispense ~ not the medicines for the body ~ but the medicines for the soul ~ for the sick boys and girls, as well as for the "weary, worried parents."
Nick's mother, Angel looked on this incredible scene and said, " We watched the parents' faces as the kids' eyes lit up at the sight of the visitors bearing gifts. The look of hope that this will be their child someday, full of strength, with a head of hair. We all cried - we all smiled." [SOURCE: USA WEEKEND - April 19-21-2002, p.7]
